Liverpool 3 - 2 City - 13/04/2014

Liverpool took a step closer to the Premier League title yesterday as they beat City 3-2 in a controversial match full of incident.  After David Silva scored, and then assisted in the equaliser, the momentum seemed to be with City to go on and win. A rare mistake by Vincent Kompany  allowed Liverpool to score to make it 3-2 and seal the victory.  A brilliant match to watch which made it even more disappointing to lose.  The title may still be within City's grasp, especially with games in hand and Chelsea's visit to Anfield.  City never do things the easy way, so it's a last day title win again!?

1906 - Liverpool 5-4 City

As a preview to this Sunday's Premier League 'decider' at Anfield,  this is a report from 27th October 1906 of an amazing match which ended with City losing 5-4!  Lets hope it's a better result this weekend!  I'm sure all City fans will show their respect for the 96 Liverpool fans who lost their lives at Hillsborough on 15th April 1989,  the 25th anniversary of the tragedy will be marked at football grounds throughout the country this weekend.

'Saturday Fever' Documentary 1960

A 'Look at life' colour documentary from the 1959-1960 season focusing on 'Saturday Fever', a snapshot of a typical footballing Saturday.  Around the 5 minute mark it features a Division 1 match played on 16th April 1960 which City (in yellow!) won 1-0 against Spurs, McAdams scoring the only goal.

Easy win in Manchester Derby

An easy 3-0 win for City in the Manchester derby on Tuesday night kept up the push for the Premier League title.  Dzeko scored two goals, the first after only 43 seconds, and a third was added by Yaya Toure late on in the match.  The night was summed up for United with the fantastic picture of David Silva leaving Patrice Evra for dead!  It seems to me the whole footballing world is rejoicing at United's demise, even if it is for a season or two.  The stewards were deployed after the match to 'guard' the 'The Chosen One' banner in case irate United fans attempted to pull it down!

Hull 0 - 2 City - 15 March 2014

A very eventful match at Hull on Saturday saw City win 2-0, even though they were down to ten men for 80 minutes after Kompany's undeserved sending off.  Goals from Silva and Dzeko sealed the win, which was made even better by Chelsea losing at Villa Park.  Hull's George Boyd tried a spectacular dive in a desperate bid to win a penalty, but will probably get an FA ban instead, as it looked as though he spat in Hart's face in the row afterwards.  Liverpool also won 3-0 at Old Trafford today!

Here's some more pictures from the League Cup Final 2014, the 'only' success this year, as Chelsea have already won the Premier League according to media experts!

Blue March

A very disappointing few days started with City being knocked out of the FA Cup by Wigan on Sunday. Tonight City were knocked out of the Champions League with a 2-1 defeat in Barcelona, having already lost the first leg 2-0 in Manchester.  Hopefully City will make up the gap to Chelsea in the Premier League with their games in hand, putting themselves in contention for the title in May.  If not the League Cup will have to do for this season!

Capitol One League Cup final 2014

A wonder goal from Yaya Toure put City level in the Capitol One League Cup final on Sunday 2nd March, after Sunderland had held a shock 1-0 lead at half-time.  After a poor display in the first half, goals from Toure, Nasri and Navas gave City their first League Cup win since 1976.  I think talk of a quadruple is a bit optimistic, with Barcelona holding a 2-0 lead and playing the second leg in Spain, the Champions League is maybe out of reach this year.  A unique domestic treble is well within City's grasp though, with the Premier League and the FA Cup still up for grabs. C'mon City!

City reach League Cup final 2014

City reached the League Cup final tonight for the first time in 38 years.  City already had a 6-0 1st leg lead, but they didn't sit back, with two goals from Negredo and one for Aguero.   Brilliant!

ECWC pennant 1970

A pennant from the European Cup Winners Cup final of 1970 which is the only European trophy City have won.  Hopefully they can remedy that with a Champions League win this year!
